#1 Literature review on flow sensing for harsh environments

This chapter sets the context for the present work. After a brief review of the governing equations and the structure of turbulence, a detailed classification of flow sensors is presented, with a focus on micromachined technologies for WSS measurement. The limitations of conventional materials used in these technologies, particularly in hot and chemically reactive gases, are then discussed. Eventually, the opportunities offered by wide-bandgap materials to address these challenges are presented, with a particular focus on silicon carbide (SiC), which is highlighted as an ideal material for anemometry in harsh environments.
